Hi! I'm Lee and I'm so excited you're here.

One of the great passions of my life is communication and bringing clarity to a subject that may seem complex or overwhelming. Having recently completed a custom home with my wife and partner, Sachi, I was struck by how much there is to know, and how difficult it can be to understand how it all fits together.

My goal is to help you understand what's important in each phase of construction and how to ensure your needs and lifestyle are designed into the building plans, and eventually the home.

Along with our experience, we've gathered valuable information and advice from building professionals, specialists, and experienced homeowners to create a resource with a wide variety of perspectives.

Each chapter is designed specifically for homeowners who will work with building professionals such as an architect and general contractor to create a home with the homeowner's lifestyle in mind.

Construction Experience

We've been homeowners through three large construction projects, all involving a builder and architect. The first was in 2008 and involved completely renovating an older home and adding square footage.

The second, in 2010, involved adding a story to our primary home. In reality, this meant rebuilding the main floor too.

The third was building Flattop, a new custom home, completed in 2021. This project took 20 months and every bit of knowledge and resources we could muster. And now, it's our forever home.

We are Educators

In 2007, Sachi and I started making animated videos and putting them on YouTube. Our goal was to explain social media for everyday people. We became known as the pioneers of explainer videos and worked with companies like Google, Intel, LEGO, Microsoft, and more.

Since then our company, Common Craft, has employed us both. We've built a library of educational videos that are used in classrooms in over 50 countries.

My first book, published in 2012, is called The Art of Explanation and has been translated into eight languages. It teaches the skill of explanation. My second book, Big Enough, was published in 2020 and is about entrepreneurship and making lifestyle a priority.
